Trend Scanning

Configure automated trend scans to monitor specific topics, industries, competitors, and keywords across all your data sources.

Trend Scanning Overview#

Trend scans are the foundation of Trend Analysis. Each scan defines what to look for (keywords, topics, entities), where to look (which sources), and when to look (scheduling). Well-configured scans surface relevant trends while filtering out noise.

You can create multiple scans for different purposes: one for competitor monitoring, another for technology trends, and another for regulatory developments. Each scan operates independently and can have its own alert settings.

Creating Scans#

Follow these steps to create a new trend scan:

1

Navigate to Trend Scans

Go to Trend Analysis > My Scans from the main navigation.
2

Click Create New Scan

Select "Create Scan" to open the scan configuration wizard.
3

Name your scan

Give your scan a descriptive name like "AI Healthcare Trends" or "Competitor Activity - Acme Corp".
4

Define keywords and topics

Add the terms, phrases, companies, or topics you want to track.
5

Configure filters

Set source types, geographic regions, languages, and date ranges.
6

Set schedule

Choose how often the scan should run: real-time, hourly, daily, or weekly.
7

Save and activate

Review your settings and activate the scan. Results will begin appearing based on your schedule.

Keywords & Topics#

Keywords are the core of your scan configuration. Trend Analysis supports several types of keyword matching:

Scan performance metrics help you optimize:

  • Results Count: Total items captured per scan run
  • Trend Detection Rate: Percentage of results classified as trends
  • Relevance Score: AI assessment of how well results match your intent
  • Alert Frequency: How often the scan triggers alerts
  • Coverage: Distribution across sources and geographies

Best Practices#

PracticeWhy It MattersHow to Implement
Start broad, then refineAvoid missing relevant trends initiallyBegin with general keywords, add exclusions over time
Use exclusions liberallyReduce noise and irrelevant resultsAdd -keyword for terms that generate false positives
Create focused scansEasier to manage and analyzeOne scan per topic area rather than one giant scan
Review and tune regularlyTrends and language evolveMonthly review of keyword performance
Balance real-time vs batchAvoid alert fatigueReal-time only for critical topics
Leverage entity trackingMore precise than keywords aloneTrack companies and products directly
